Do you want another blight on the townscape of Ripon? Another haemorrhage of your money to a multi-national chain? Have a look here: www.notocosta.co.uk
Just as Ripon is beginning to shuffle grudgingly towards the 21st Century with the opening of some interesting, independent shops, coffee shops, wine bars and galleries the last thing it needs is to be dragged backwards by another cheap chain purveying its homogenous shite.
So, Ripon Council, Harrogate Borough Council: What are you going to do about it? As if we didn't know

My friend Clarissa has commented that one of Ripon's delights is the already plentiful supply of places to purchase a beverage. Many of these are independently-owned establishments. It is shops to browse and spend in in between coffee shops which we currently lack.
Shops we would like to see include:
- an independent greengrocer
- a fishmongers
- a hat shop
- a CD shop. Yes, some of us still listen to music trapped on plastic, you know.
- a tourist-trap shop to take guests to. The cathedral's shop is very nice, mind you, but a little classy for some of the types I have to stay. I want to be able to buy a sheep with "Ripon" emblazoned on it's backside. That kind of thing.
- a place of marvels. Yes, there is the Curious Room in Kirkgate, but it is tantalisingly open only when the moon is waning gibbous. Possibly.
We don't need any more coffee shop and certainly not Costa but I'm sure they'll be welcomed with open arms by the idiots on the council.
How many more! At a conservative (sorry) estimate you can buy coffee over 20 times in one day in Ripon!
